Day 30 - Paper Towel and Toilet Paper

Today’s final miniature offering is a roll of paper towels and a roll of toilet paper.  I really wish I was a better photographer because both of these turned out better than they look in the pictures.  (But after taking and rejecting 35+ photos, I decided I just needed to choose one.) Both items are made from the actual materials (paper towel and toilet paper) cut into the correct size strips.  The tube in the middle of each roll is a cut-to-size piece of the inside of a disposable pen. I simply rolled the strips of each material around the pen tubes and glued them near the ends.  I like that for my final miniature I was able to real materials in the items.

Day 29 - Welcome Mat

Don’t be distracted by the dollhouse door – I didn’t make that.  I made the welcome mat in front of it and used the door to help display the mat.  It is a bit ironic that I am making a miniature that says “Welcome” when I am so near the end of “30 Days of Miniatures”.  I suppose I should have made this sooner.  The picture doesn’t really show it for what it is.  It looks like a piece of paper with the word welcome on it.  It is actually a piece of thin velvet cut from an old business card carrying case.  I then printed up a mirror image of the word “Welcome” on a piece of sticker backing paper.  Once it was printed I quickly adhered it to the velvet and created the mat.  One day left in this 30 day series and then an actual day off.

Day 28 - Money in Many Forms

Today I made miniature money, checks, a check register, credit cards and a bank statement.  I guess it is time for the end of the month financial review in miniature land.  These items are made with images re-sized as needed and gently cut with my tiny scissors.  Only two more days of miniatures – Time to start thinking of my next 30 day challenge.  Any suggestions?

Day 27 - Jewelry

Today’s miniature is a silver bead necklace and matching post ear rings displayed on a velvet display board.  I hunted through a bag of silver beads to find the smallest ones and threaded them on a piece of wire.  The ear ring beads are adhered to the velvet to keep them from rolling away.

Day 26 - Hurricane Lamp

I wasn’t sure what I would be making today as we are getting to the end of the month and I am at the end of my idea list.  I looked though some of my supplies and was actually starting to make something else (which I may make tomorrow) when I decided that these two beautiful beads would make a lovely hurricane lamp.  I used a stick pin with a pearl end, the beads and three bead spacers to thread the lamp together.  There is a bit of foam at the bottom that holds the pin loosely in place.  I say loosely because I have had to “re-make” this lamp several times already.  Hopefully once it is placed in the display box, it will stay in one piece.

Day 25 - Sea Shell Collection

So I didn’t actually make today’s miniatures.  I will give God the credit for the actual creation, but I did do the work of finding them years ago when I was visiting a beach near Tampa.  Every day I would walk on the beach and find normal size shells of interest.  One day I was sitting at the edge of the beach sifting sand through my hands and I looked down and saw what looked like a tiny cone shell.  Upon further investigation, I realized it was a perfectly formed tiny cone.  As I sifted through more sand I found these other tiny shells including small clam or cockle shells, olive shells, augers, scallops and Chinese hats.  I was amazed.  I saved them for many years by sticking them to a piece of cellophane tape in another shell.  I got them out today for my miniatures series.  I wish my photography skills were better, but each of these is a real miniature sea shell.
