Where
did the month go? Today’s final origami
is called a “Curler Unit Ball” in the book I found it. I am not too excited about the name, but I
love the piece. It was a challenge to
create, but I think it looks really cool.
Now it is time to plan for the next 30 days.

Day 29 - Ornament
Today’s
origami is a modular ornament that is quite sturdy and would look good hanging
on a Christmas tree or wreath. I made one
out 3 pieces of wall paper (a bit of a challenge to fold – especially since it
was small) and another out of scraps of Christmas wrap.

Day 28 - Butterfly Ball
This is
a butterfly ball. This modular piece of
origami is made from 12 small squares that are simply folded into water bomb
bases. They are connected into the ball
pattern seen here. The reason it is called a butterfly ball is that when you
throw it up in the air and hit it, the pieces flutter to the ground a bit like
butterflies. It can be a challenging
process to put the pieces together into the ball, but it is lots of fun to
watch the “butterflies” fly.

Day 27 - Frog
I
should have done this in green paper, but I guess I can call him the albino
frog. He is a bit more elaborate than
the frog I created on Day 14, but was fun to make.

Day 26 - Magic Star
This
modular unit is called the Magic Star or the Frisbee. It is called Frisbee because the pieces can
be spread out and turned into a circular flying disc. I like how the star looks better than the Frisbee
shape. I used red and green for the
holiday season. The pieces were easy to
fold and it was relatively simple to put them together until I got to the last
piece. That took a little trial and
error before I was able to complete it successfully.

Day 25 - Paper Book
As I have said repeatedly on this blog - I love books. So there was definitely going to have to be an origami book this month somehow. This
modular book was made with 4 piece of 8 ½ by 11 inch paper rather than the
traditional squares. It is a very sturdy
book and it could be used in a lot of different ways. I used regular printer paper for the inside
and more decorative stone colored paper for the cover. It is all done with folds. There is no glue nor tape used to keep this together. Pretty cool, huh?
