Day 30 - Canvas

The final magnet for this 30 day series is a miniature canvas that I made with a piece of book board and one of the lemon wedge holders I mentioned in a previous post.  I cut the elastic off the back of lemon wedge holder and then glued the material to the cardboard.  I used markers to “paint” the flowers on the canvas.  There is a square piece of flat magnet attached to the back.    So that is all for my 30 days of magnets.     Now what am I going to do for the month of November?  I guess I have all day tomorrow to decide.  Check back on Thursday to see what I have come up with.  (Or you can help me out by making a suggestion in the comments before then.)

Day 29 - Happy National Cat Day

This magnet is a piece of a children’s puzzle that I painted with silver paint.  I then found some favorite feline stickers and added them to front of the magnet while putting a magnetic strip on the back.  It is the perfect magnet for the day, because it is National Cat Day.  I hope you were able to celebrate with your favorite feline friend or friends.

Day 28 - When We Were Very Young

These magnets are made from the half marbles that I get at the dollar store.  These are easy and fun to make.  Choose a picture and cut it to the size of the half marble.  Use Mod Podge to glue the picture to the marble.  (It will dry clear).  Once it dries add a magnet to the back and you are done.  The pictures in these marble are all from the book “When We Were Very Young” by A.A.Milne.  This is a book of poems that my mother used to read to us when we were very young.  I can still quote many of the poems by heart.

Day 27 - Duds

Today I went and picked up the candy that I will need for Halloween this year.  I love Halloween and I love being generous with the candy.  However, the candy companies are not being very generous with us these days.  The fun size candy bar has been around for about 44 years and in the last decade they have seemed to be shrinking yearly. I know all candy bars have been shrinking, but I don’t know how much smaller they are going to go and still try to use the word “fun” in their packaging.  Sadly I imagine that the candy companies will probably figure out a way to make candy smears on paper and convince us that they are fun size.  Sigh.  So today’s magnet is a small Milk Duds box from this year’s candy that I will pass out.  The box is deceptive.  It is not full when you open it and the Duds seem smaller than in the past.  The other candy bars in the collection are barely even bite size (which is another “size” you can actually buy.)  So I titled this post “Duds”, not in honor of the candy, but in honor of the candy executives that made the decision to create the incredible shrinking candy bars.  (Oh yeah, I resealed the candy box, stuck a magnet to the back to make this.  It took me longer to type that last sentence than it would to eat a piece of fun size candy.)

Day 26 - More Game Pieces!

More game pieces!  I found a few more game pieces that I thought might make fun magnets.  The dice, the domino and the hotel from Monopoly are all familiar items that provoke memories for many of us.  I added simple magnets to the back and can now add them to my ever expanding magnet collection.

Day 25 - Money

Today I thought to myself – I know what would make a good magnet – money!  Coins are just the right size and most are not too heavy to use with the magnets that I have available to me.  My first thought was to make a magnet out of a quarter and see what people would do when they saw it stuck somewhere.  However, I remembered that I also had some foreign currency that I could use and turning them into magnets would be a good way to display them.  So here they are - a coin-magnet from Britain and a coin-magnet from Mexico.  Pip-pip and Ole!
